Limbo of the Lost is a 2D point-and-click adventure game. As with other games, the player will acquire various items throughout their adventure. While most of these items appear to be rendered 3D models, others appear to be taken from random webpages, quite likely through search engines' specialized image search functionality; as demonstrated by the ease of finding the source images through using such image searches.

Identified[]

The following are items for which the source material has been found.

Limbo of the Lost Source Notes
Limbo of the Lost "Metal Cutters" Source image from istockphoto.com, images.google Limbo of the Lost "Metal Cutters": The source image has been used 'as is'. Note that the description is incorrect; these are wire cutters - sheet metal cutters are an entirely different tool.

Source image as found on istockphoto.com through images.google.com, search terms: old wire cutters, result 4 on page 1.

Note that this is a stock photo and its use, if licensed, is perfectly valid. However, traces of some of the watermark lines may appear in the LotL image; JPEG compression in the image referenced here make this difficult to identify with absolute certainty.

Limbo of the Lost "Glass Orb" Source image from http-//www.home.no/t-o-k/povray/CSG-Glass Ball.jpg, images.google Limbo of the Lost "Glass Orb: The source image has been scaled non-uniformly, pasted onto a background and given the typical Limbo of the Lost 'glow'.

Source image as found on www.home.no/t-o-k/ through images.google.com, search terms: glass ball, result 9 on page 2.

This is an original image created by Tor Olav Kristensen.

Limbo of the Lost "Apron" Source image from woodcarvingsupplies.com, images.google Limbo of the Lost "Apron": The source image has been scaled non-uniformly. The brand name, KUNY'S, is still faintly visible.

Source image as found on woodcarvingsupplies.com through images.google.com, search terms: apron, result 13 on page 8.

Note that this image appears to a scan from an unidentified printed catalog.

Limbo of the Lost "Cooks Hat" Source image from virginkeywest.com, images.google Limbo of the Lost "Cooks Hat": The source image has been edited to remove the woman's head, the inside of the hat was then apparently painted in.

Source image as found on virginkeywest.com through images.google.com, search terms: cook's hat, result 4 on page 1.

Note that this is not the original image either, given the oddly cut-off text.

Limbo of the Lost "Glass Box" Limbo of the Lost glass box This particular item is from the NVidia 'Smoke Box' tech demo. The exact image is not present on the NVidia, or any other easily-found site, and may have been screencapped by the Limbo of the Lost developers from the realtime demo.

Limbo of the Lost "Candle"
Source image from ancientrites.co.uk, images
Limbo of the Lost "Candle": The exact source is unclear as this is a common product resold through various (online) stores. If the stock image of the product was used, then at least what appear to be a sticker on the product has been painted out.

Later on in the game, a red candle is introduced; this is the same image with a colorized candle and what is supposed to look like wax having melted to the holder's basin colorized in as well.

Source image as found on ancientrites.co.uk through images.google.com, search terms: black candle, result 12 on page 6.

Limbo of the Lost "Metal Bar" Source Image from genchem.chem.wisc.edu, images.google Limbo of the Lost "Metal Bar": The source image has been rescaled, sides were added by cloning, and the right-hand end was painted in.

Source image as found on genchem.chem.wisc.edu through images.google.com, search terms: metal bar, result 5 on page 1.

Site cites as source "Journal of Chemical Education - Vol. 65, 1988, page 69"

Limbo of the Lost "Pair of Metal Tongs" Source Image from amazon.co.uk product page, images.google Limbo of the Lost "Pair of Metal Tongs": The source image was rescaled.

Source image as found on amazon.co.uk through images.google.com, search terms: metal tongs, result 2 on page 1.

A pair of metal tongs from the "Farringdon Collection".

Limbo of the Lost "Gold Teeth" Source image from saipan.com,images.google Limbo of the Lost "Gold Teeth": The source image's three right-most teeth have been used verbatim (cut out from the rest of the image) for the back row of teeth, whereas the front row is rescaled from the source image.

Source image as found on saipan.com, referenced on a freewebs site, through images.google.com, search terms: gold teeth lower, result 10 on page 5.

SpyglassLOTL Spyglass Pirates Limbo of the Lost "An Eye Glass / A Naval Spyglass / A Spyglass" (there's three different names). When it's lying on the table in the Gift Shoppe, it uses a poorly edited graphic taken from a 2003 Pirates of the Carribean video game. A completely different graphic is used when it is in the actual inventory.
