Limbo of the Lost appears to not only have appropriated various art assets from other commercial products, but prose as well.

Limbo of the Lost: Actual Stories of Sea Mysteries[]

Published in 1969, Limbo of the Lost was a book about the Bermuda Triangle and other such sea mysteries. In the 70s it was re-issued with the subtitle "Actual Stories of Sea Mysteries." LotL centers around the captain of the Mary Celeste -- a famous ship lost at sea. Under normal circumstances, it would appear that the title of the game is paying homage to this book; however, given the circumstances that LotL finds itself in, this appropriation takes on a more sinister tone.

Spawn[]

The intro to the game contains the block of text to the right. It comes from the movie/comic book Spawn. There's also a scene of falling down a fiery tunnel, also taken from Spawn (watch the video below at about the 2:04 mark).

Rune[]

A Just Adventure poster and found that the dialog on this trailer with the demon speaking is from the video game RUNE: "The dead do not welcome the presence of the living, warrior. You remind them of all they have lost."

Harry Potter[]

The three-headed dog monster from this game is called Fluffy. Interestingly enough, the cerberus in the book Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, released in 1997, is also called Fluffy. However, giving a fierce creature a cutesy name is a very common joke.

Oblivion[]

The lines of the Limbo of the Lost opening movie, as written in flaming letters, are "In the shadow of evil", "a hero will rise" as well as "the battle has begun", "the fate of the world", "rests in the hands of One." This appears to be taken from The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion trailer, which states "In the shadow of evil", "from the ashes of an empire", "a hero will rise" as well as "the battle has begun", "the fate of the world", "rests in the hands of One.". Although the words "a hero will rise" are common in use, the combination with the other lines appears to be unique to Oblivion short of emerging Limbo of the Lost references pointing out the striking similarity.

Fonts[]

The game uses all sorts of fonts for its text, at least some of which are not free for commercial use and may have been used without an appropriate license.

  • The title, "Limbo of the Lost", uses the Dreamscar font.
  • Buttons in the main menu, Chapter loading screens, and some other places use the Ringbearer font, which is based on the Lord of the Rings and is most likely copyrighted.
  • Descriptions of items use the Monotype Corsiva font.
  • Notes on the prison doors in the Prologue use the Rebuffed font.
  • Some signs in Chapter 1 use the "A Charming Font" font.
  • Briggs's journal in Chapter 3 uses the James Fajardo font.
  • Curfew notice in Chapter 3 uses the Codex Std Regular font.
  • Chapter 4's map uses the John Handy Std font.
  • The "by order of the Janitor" text in Chapter 4 uses the Farfa font (may not be exact match).
  • Manuscript in Chapter 5 uses the Tiranti Solid Std font.
  • Doors of the seven sins in Chapter 5 use the Echelon font.
  • Doors of the Horsemen in Chapter 5 use the Cretino Regular font.
